Construction

Our approach to construction is not strictly linear, we consider the clients and designers’ aspirations in order to understand and then actualise what they are trying to achieve. Then we play in that space. Every new project is an exciting challenge, a chance to learn and improve our craft as builders. We handpick our tradesmen for their experience, enthusiasm, work ethic and ability to work in a collaborative environment. We seek inspiration from them. It is often their craftsmanship that inspires us to follow each project’s challenges down to the last finishing detail.

We will construct the dream into a reality on time, on cost, on quality, safely, and with enthusiasm and great care.

Project Management

It is hard to know where to start. The design and construction of a home is often as complex as the commercial projects that I have spent such a large percentage of my career working on.

Consider coordinating the contracts and sub contracts of engineers, land and building surveyors, architects, interior designers, landscape designers, lighting consultants, glazing consultants, soil engineers, artists and artisans.

Also consider energy efficiency, the use of recycled materials, imported materials, safety liabilities, defects liabilities, warranties, mock-ups, samples, lifts, car parks, basements, wine rooms, art, audio visuals, acoustics, mechanical design, hydraulics, security, town planning, irrigation and the challenges of working with heritage sites.

Whether you’re part way through a project or just getting started, you may consider the services of a project manager. Crisp Projects was established to give you the option of placing your project in the hands of an independent, highly-experienced client side project manager in order to guide your build through these complex phases smoothly and safely.

About.

I established Crisp Projects in 2016 after a long career in client side project management in the residential and commercial construction industry. After graduating from RMIT University in the early nineties with a degree in Building and Construction Management, I sought out architect John Baird (1924 – 2010) and worked with him at Fairweather Homes. John Baird became an inspiration and mentor, a leader in sustainable architecture, prefabrication and environmental approaches to construction. I worked with John on homes in Portsea, Darwin, Kangaroo Island, Timor and everywhere in between. It was working closely with John that cultivated my love for housing and good design.

My career then took me to Asia, where I worked for a joinery-based contractor building the head offices of international companies coming into Thailand at that time: Opel, Westinghouse, KLM Ford, Ericsson and Peninsula Hotels . During my time in Asia, I worked closely with international architectural firms Hassels, Woods Bagot and HBA Architecture.

Upon returning to Australia I worked for a client side project management firm and honed my project management skills for the Queensland Investment Corporations retail portfolio in Melbourne’s West. After a few years I moved back into residential builds with a leading retirement village company as their Victorian and South Australian project manager. In that role I developed and renovated retirement villages, delivering high quality homes designed by Catt Architects and others.

For the past 10 years I have been a part owner and director at Blueprint, a project and development management consultancy. The main focus was the development and delivery of large-format retail for the Spotlight Property Group, however, we were often asked to project manage high-end and complex homes. In the past six years I have delivered over $15 million worth of homes designed by Jolson Architects, Beatrix Rowe Interiors and others, which has reignited my passion for residential homes. I am tremendously excited to get back to what I have always loved about the industry: working with craftsmen, artisans, designers and engineers to build complex and beautifully detailed homes. Such was the birth of Crisp Projects.
